The most Romantic Park in Rome: Parco degli Acquedotti
I am a very simple woman, I love nature, I love a walk, and I love romance. I had written a blog post before about my favourite parks in Rome, and I really thought I had seen most of what the city had to offer nature wise. Turns out I was completely wrong. My roommate recently showed me pictures of the most romantic picnic location I had ever seen in my life. It turned out to be Parco degli Acquedotti, a public park located in the southeastern part of Rome. In this blog post I will tell you all about why you should visit this amazing place and how to get there easily using public transport!
Why you should visit Parco degli Acquedotti
As I mentioned above, Parco degli Acquedotti is located in the southeastern part of Rome, and it’s actually part of the larger Parco dell'Appia Antica, which I’ve written about before. Parco degli Acquedotti is famous for its stunning and well-preserved remains of ancient Roman aqueducts, which once supplied water to the city.
In the area, there are seven aqueducts: Anio Vetus, Anio Novus, Aqua Marcia, Aqua Tepula, Aqua Iulia, Aqua Claudia, and the still-functioning Felix Aqueduct. If you want to read more about the history of each individual aqueduct, you can click this link which will take you to the official tourist website.
Parco degli Acquedotti is perfect for walking, running, picnicking or photography—you name it. It’s kind of funny because I keep giving parks in Rome the title of ‘my favourite park,’ and then it changes rather quickly. First it was Villa Ada, then Parco dell’Appia Antica, and now it’s probably this one. The scenery is just too pretty, like it comes straight out of a movie. With all the pine trees, open fields, and the aqueducts, it’s very easy to forget you’re still in modern Rome.
While I was there, I was really feeling the vibes, you know, wearing my cowboy boots. The only things missing were a matching hat and probably a horse. If you are horseless like me, another fun way to get around the park is by renting a bike. I didn’t rent one myself, but I saw a lot of people cruising through the park, and with a bike you can also explore Parco dell’Appia Antica.
Since I haven’t tried it myself yet, I can’t give a firsthand recommendation, but I did find a bike rental place really close to the park that has some great reviews.
How to get to Parco degli Acquedotti
When you look at a map, you might think Parco degli Acquedotti is quite far, but with the metro it’s actually a pretty quick trip from the centre of Rome. The park lies on metro line A, and from the stop ‘Giulio Agricola’ it’s only a 10-minute walk to the entrance of the park.
The neighbourhood is also quite nice, with loads of stores along the main street called Via Tuscolana. If you’re not familiar with the public transportation system in Rome, I’ve actually written a beginner’s guide to help you on your way!
Conclusion
This is a little bit of a shorter blog post than I would normally write, but I think the message is still pretty clear. If you are in Rome and you love nature, want to have a picnic, go on a walk, clear your head, read, or just take some pretty pictures, I promise you will not regret visiting this stunning place. I really fell in love with it, so I hope you do too!
