5 Best Matcha Spots in Rome: Cafés and To-Go Matcha (2025 Guide)
As someone who doesn’t drink coffee, the matcha trend is something I’ve welcomed with open arms. While I used to be a loyal chai latte girl, I have now fully embraced the matcha latte, preferably with coconut milk. In some cities, like Amsterdam, you cannot turn a corner without finding a matcha café, but in Rome it is not quite as common yet. That is why I created this list of the best matcha spots in Rome. Some offer the full experience with a café and sweet treats, while others are more focused on take-away. They are spread across different neighbourhoods of Rome, so you will always have the chance to enjoy a well-deserved matcha latte!
Hiromi Cake
My favourite and top recommendation on this list is Hiromi Cake, a Japanese pastry shop located in the stunning Prati neighbourhood, close to the Vatican. At Hiromi Cake, you can enjoy the full café experience. They have a beautiful outside seating area, which is perfect for sitting with friends or, of course, by yourself, maybe with a good book.
Their Japanese pastries are almost too pretty to eat, and you can check out their selection on their website. Besides wagashi, they also sell dorayaki and mochi. As someone who has tried their mochi, I can confirm it is totally worth it.
Now for the most important part, the matcha. I am a pretty simple girl, so I just had a classic matcha latte, but they offer many fun variations like added chocolate, mango or ice cream. While I would not call myself a matcha connoisseur, I really loved this matcha. On top of that, the staff is super friendly and welcoming. The only downside is that I prefer my matcha with coconut milk, and they only had normal, oat, and soy milk. But besides that, it was amazing all around. Hiromi Cake is open daily from 9:30 to 22:00, giving you plenty of flexibility to stop by.
Tip: Hiromi also has a Japanese restaurant in Rome, called La Maison. The Google reviews are pretty good, so I can’t wait to go eat there someday!
ChaChaLab
Located very close to Campo de’ Fiori, you can find ChaChaLab - Matcha & Bubble Tea, one of the best spots for grab-and-go matcha in Rome. This small matcha café is mostly focused on takeaway, so keep in mind that they do not have a bathroom. Despite the size, ChaChaLab is one of the most instagrammable matcha spots in the city.
All of the drink options at ChaChaLab, from matcha lattes to bubble teas, look fun and colourful, and the pictures on Google Maps are very tempting. They also offer delicious snacks, including matcha gelato and bubble waffles, making it a great stop for a quick matcha treat.
I tried their strawberry matcha latte, again without coconut milk, and it was so tasty. I also loved their cups, which felt high quality and kind of fancy, adding to the instagrammable vibe. ChaChaLab is open every day from 11:30 in the morning until 7:30 in the evening, making it easy to fit a visit into your day. Overall, I highly recommend ChaChaLab for anyone looking for a quick and fun matcha experience in Rome.
BaraTea
The next matcha spot on the list is a little further from the centre, but that should not stop you from paying a visit. Located in Garbatella, close to the Ostiense neighbourhood in Rome, you can find BaraTea, a fairly new spot for matcha, bubble tea, and sweet treats.
While I did not see a bathroom, this café has a comfy couch and seating area, so you can sit down and enjoy your treats, or take them to go, of course. What I love about this place is the homemade feel, and they also had some seasonal items when I was there, such as a pumpkin matcha latte.
Personally, I tried their matcha mango and I loved it. It was not too sweet and not something that will leave you in a sugar coma. I know it may not be the most convenient location, but I love supporting small businesses, and the area is great if you want to explore. I can only recommend it as a charming spot for matcha in Rome.
Tip: BaraTea is closed around lunch time, so make sure to check their opening hours on Google before you go.
Tè Amo
Now listen, this is where we are getting into bubble tea territory, but you know what, it is my list, so I make the rules. Tè Amo is a bubble tea store located on Via di Torre Argentina, close to the Pantheon. It is really focused on take-away, so there is no bathroom, but their drinks are amazing.
I ordered their classic matcha and I was really impressed. The inside of the shop also adds to the charm, with all the fun post-its on the wall, giving it a very authentic feel. Tè Amo is of course in the centre of Rome and quite popular, so it can get busy, but I think it is totally worth it. When I was there, I saw some crazy-looking drinks pass the counter, and the Google reviews are really good as well.
Tè Amo is open every day except Monday, from 12:00 to 19:30. If you are walking around the centre, it is the perfect spot for a matcha break in Rome.
The One Bubble Tea
Last but not least is The One Bubble Tea. They have two locations in Rome, one in Prati and one in Trieste, but I visited the one in Trieste. First of all, I have to give them flowers because they were the only spot to offer their matcha with coconut milk, which is a huge win in my book. Again, we are in bubble tea territory with this one, but I choose to turn a blind eye.
The Trieste location is a very cute take-away spot, small with no space to sit. Besides drinks, they also sell bubble waffles, which is something I have to try in the future. I ordered their classic matcha and it was a huge success. On top of that, the staff was really kind.
I also loved the branding and packaging at The One Bubble Tea. I think it was really cute, and together with the whole experience, I am sure I will be back again.
Both locations of The One Bubble Tea are open every day from 11:30 in the morning until 19:30, making it easy to fit a visit into your day.
Conclusion
I hope this post helps you find your favourite matcha spot in Rome! I don’t think the matcha culture is quite as big here as in Amsterdam, but there are definitely amazing spots that I am sure you will love. If I missed your favourite matcha spot, please let me know in the comments, I am always on the lookout for more places to try!
With much love,
Juliette
