How to get from Eindhoven Airport to Eindhoven Central Station (Easy & Cheap Options)
As a Dutch international student living in Rome, I know how stressful it can feel to land in a new country. Whether it’s for a vacation, an Erasmus exchange, or moving altogether, figuring out how to get from A to B can be quite overwhelming, especially if you don’t speak the language or have never been there before.
In this blog post, I will tell you everything you need to know about how to get from Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands to the central station in the most budget-friendly way. Even if you are heading to Amsterdam or another city, you might find yourself arriving at Eindhoven Airport, and with this guide, you will be at your destination in the Netherlands in no time.
About Eindhoven Airport
Eindhoven Airport is the second largest airport in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam Schiphol. It offers almost 80 destinations and mainly hosts low-cost airlines such as Ryanair (I love Ryanair), Wizz Air, Transavia and TUI. While Schiphol is a larger hub with almost 300 destinations, I personally prefer Eindhoven Airport, as the small-scale airport feels more calm and collected to me.
Even though it is a relatively small airport, there are still shops and a nice selection of restaurants inside, making it a comfortable place to travel through. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to stay overnight at the airport (I feel you, budget travellers), but there are several hotels conveniently located nearby, such as the Tulip Inn.
It is also important to note that from February 1 to July 19, 2027, Eindhoven Airport will be closed for renovations. During this period, there will be no commercial flights due to major runway works. As a hardcore Eindhoven Airport fan, this makes me a little sad, but I am happy the airport is getting a well-deserved upgrade.
Is there a train from Eindhoven Airport?
Buses arriving at Eindhoven Station
While Amsterdam Schiphol has a train station directly at the airport, this is not the case for Eindhoven Airport. So, to answer the question: is there a train from Eindhoven Airport? Sadly, the answer is no.
But no need to worry, as the airport is very well connected to Eindhoven Central Station, from where you can travel across the Netherlands. There are both budget-friendly and more expensive options, and we will start with the cheapest and my personal favourite: the bus.
Taking the bus from Eindhoven Airport to the city centre
I feel like if there is one thing the Dutch are good at, it is organisation, and as soon as you enter the arrival hall, you will see yellow signs indicating the bus stop. You can follow these signs outside and cross the street towards the parking garage.
At the parking garage, you will pass a McDonald’s, and you simply continue walking past it, as the bus stop is located directly underneath the garage.
At the bus stop, there are several platforms, named A, B and C. There are electronic signs showing bus information, including the bus number and the platform. To travel to Eindhoven Central Station, you can take both bus 400 and 401, and both run approximately every 10 minutes.
How to buy tickets
At the bus stop, you will find ticket machines where you can buy your bus tickets. If there is a long line and you don’t want to wait, my personal tip is to simply check in and out using your bank card, which is what I did last time.
This means you don’t need to buy a ticket in advance, but can just pay directly on the bus. I included a picture of the check-in/check-out machine inside the bus, simply tap your card against it and voilà, you’re checked in. Just repeat this when you leave the bus.
A bus ticket from the airport to the station costs around €3, and the journey takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Other options
If you have a bit more budget or simply don’t want to take the bus, you can also take a taxi from Eindhoven Airport. There is a designated taxi lane outside the airport, from where you can travel to the city centre or your preferred location in the Netherlands. Taxis in the Netherlands are quite expensive, so this is something to keep in mind.
You can also find several car rental companies at Eindhoven Airport, such as SIXT, Europcar, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Avis. If you are planning to explore the Netherlands by car, these are definitely good options to consider.
Conclusion
I hope this article was helpful when travelling to the Netherlands through Eindhoven Airport. After reading this, I’m sure your journey will go smoothly and that you will have the best time in my home country.
