Where to Buy Toiletries and Beauty Products in Rome

While I don’t remember everything from the first weeks after I moved to Rome (it has been 3 years!!!!), I do remember that I seriously thought all Italians just bought their toiletries and beauty products either from the supermarket or the farmacia. When I was exploring the city, I simply never ran into a drugstore like we have them in the Netherlands (shoutout to Etos & Kruidvat) or like dm in Germany.

Of course, I was wrong. Rome actually has plenty of drugstores where you can buy all the things you would normally find in a store like this, and some of them are even better than the ones I am used to.

If you are looking for a drugstore in Rome to buy shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, skincare, makeup, cleaning products, or other everyday essentials, you are at the right address. In this article, I will tell you all about my favorite drugstores in Rome, what you can find there, and where to find them, so you know exactly where to go the next time you need to stock up on your toiletries or beauty products.

Acqua & Sapone

Let’s start with my personal favorite, Acqua & Sapone. I might be a little biased because for years, this was the drugstore closest to me, but I also think they have the best selection of products. Acqua & Sapone is a big chain in Rome, and they have more than 10 stores throughout the city.

While there are a lot of stores, none of them are in the city center, which is why I couldn’t find one during the first weeks I was in Rome. Almost all residential and surrounding areas of Rome have one, though, so if you are staying somewhere outside the center, you can almost be sure there is one close by.

At Acqua & Sapone, you can find everything you need, from shampoo and shower gel to cleaning products and things for your washing machine and dishwasher. Just everything you could possibly need or want. The Acqua & Sapone I used to go to did not have the biggest makeup selection, but this differs from store to store.

If you really want to shop solely for makeup, Sephora or Kiko Milano might be the better choice. But if you need to stock up on a little bit of everything, Acqua & Sapone is definitely my first choice.

Tigotà

Next on the list is Tigotà, and like Acqua & Sapone, it is a big chain in Rome. You can find them in about the same areas as Acqua & Sapone too, which means you cannot find one in the city center.

Tigotà, like most drugstores, has everything you might need. From cosmetics to cleaning products, it is all right there. I am a big fan of the perfume selection at Tigotà, since they seem to have a little more choice than Acqua & Sapone.

PiùMe

PiùMe is one of those drugstores I almost never visit, because there are only a handful of them in Rome, but when there is one close to you, it is a really good choice!

Personally, I think the aesthetics of PiùMe are the best out of all the drugstores in Rome, and it really reminds me of Etos back home. The makeup selection at PiùMe might be the best one out of all the drugstores too, but this also depends a little on the location you go to.

Besides makeup, of course they have all the other essentials you might need, so if you happen to have a PiùMe near you, I would definitely give it a try!

Caddy’s

Last but not least is Caddy’s, which is the smallest chain of them all, with only four stores in Rome. While there are not many stores, this drugstore might be the one you visit, because it is the only one with a location in the city center, between the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum, in the Monti area of Rome.

While Caddy’s is not my favorite drugstore in Rome, it is very useful to have one in the center, and they will have most of the things you need!

Tip: I have written a vintage shopping guide about the Monti area of Rome, so if you are on your way to Caddy’s, don’t forget to take a look at these amazing vintage stores too!

Conclusion

I hope that with this blog article, I could help you on your way to finding a drugstore in Rome, as you now know that they are here, even though sometimes they are a little hidden.
