Where to Go Ice Skating in Rome (And Not Only During Christmas)

For some people, this might come as a surprise, but I used to be a figure skater. I say used to because I haven’t been training for a couple of years since I quit, but after so many years on the ice, some of that skill will always stay with you. From time to time, a wave of nostalgia hits me and I get an intense craving to put on my skates again. So when I moved to Rome, I started my search for an enclosed ice rink that is open throughout the year.

In this blog post, I will share my favourite places to go ice skating, and obviously you don’t have to be a figure skater to enjoy these rinks. Skating is fun for all levels and ages, with friends or with family, and with this article I hope to inspire you to put on some skates this winter.

Seasonal Ice Rinks

Rome has several small outdoor ice rinks that open during the Christmas season. At this point, I feel like I need to apologize, because most of the rinks I’m about to mention are unfortunately already closed. Let’s just collectively blame my exam period for the late mention. But on the bright side, you can keep them stored in your mind for next year, right?

The small ice rinks around Rome are, as far as I could tell, all managed by IcePark. As you can see on their website, they have several locations across Rome, and even in surrounding villages like Tivoli. Of the four locations in Rome, two are already closed: Piazza Cavour and Re di Roma, both of which closed on the eleventh of January. Piazza Cavour, in particular, is a beautiful location, and as you can read here, it’s actually one of my favourite places to read. I will definitely remember it for next year, since I would love to skate here.

The other two locations, Foro Italico and Piazza Smart, are still open until the first of February. While they are a little further from the city centre, both are accessible by public transport.

Ice skating prices are the same across all IcePark rinks. One ticket costs 12 euros, including skate rental, and gives you access to the rink for one hour. Personally, I think it’s a bit expensive, but it is what it is. All the rinks are open every day from 10:00 to midnight, which gives plenty of flexibility to plan your ice skating trip.

All the IcePark rinks opened between the beginning and middle of December, so if you are reading this article at the end of 2026 and are looking for an ice skating rink, you might be in luck! I recommend checking their website.

Another ice rink that is sadly already closed is the one at Christmas World in Villa Borghese. Christmas World is a huge Christmas village, filled with themed areas, attractions, and sections with stores and food stalls. While it might not be in the park anymore, it could be back by the end of the year. If you are interested, I highly recommend checking out my extensive review of Christmas World in Rome to see if it’s worth a visit!

Sporting Club Panda

Now I want to share with you my hidden gem for ice skating in Rome, Sporting Club Panda. Sporting Club Panda is a large sports complex with not only an ice rink, but also tennis, padel, and football fields. They offer lessons in multiple sports, including martial arts and Latin-style dance. At the ice rink, they even have different types of figure skating lessons, including synchronized skating, which is the type I practiced for years with my team.

The ice rink at Sporting Club Panda is open from October until the end of April. You can go skating on Fridays from 21:00 until midnight, Saturdays from 15:00 until 01:00, and Sundays from 11:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 20:00. I used to only go during the day, but last weekend I went late at night with some friends, and I did not expect it, but the rink was really busy with groups of friends, which created such a fun atmosphere!

Since Sporting Club Panda is a bit far from the centre, it’s most convenient if you have a car. However, I’ve also gone many times by bus. You can take bus 337, for example, which stops almost right in front of the club.

Conclusion

I hope this article helps you find your way if you want to go ice skating in Rome. If not this winter, maybe next December!
