Palazzo Esposizioni Roma: Exhibitions, Tickets and Tips

Rising along Via Nazionale, you'll find a beautiful white palace and cultural hub in the center of Rome. Inaugurated in 1883, Palazzo Esposizioni is one of those majestic places that always takes my breath away.

I passed this museum many times, as my Italian lessons used to be just around the corner, but I had never actually been inside. This autumn, that finally changed when I went to see an exhibition at Palazzo Esposizioni.

In this article, I'll tell you everything you need to know about visiting Palazzo Esposizioni in Rome, from ticket prices and current exhibitions to my personal experience. By the end, you'll be well prepared for your visit!

Where to Find Palazzo Esposizioni in Rome

As I mentioned in my introduction, I used to pass Palazzo Esposizioni almost every day because my Italian lessons were literally two minutes away. The address of the museum is Via Nazionale 194, and frankly, you can't miss it.

If you want to travel by public transport, you have two metro options, and both are very easy. If you take Metro Line A, you can get off at Repubblica and walk for about five minutes from there. If you take Metro Line B, you can get off at Cavour and walk for about ten minutes.

Tip: Not very familiar with public transport in Rome? I've written an easy beginner's guide to help you get around the city, so I recommend giving that article a read before your visit!

Now, as a woman, I feel like I have to warn my readers about something. Both of the metro options I mentioned above happen to bring you close to some amazing shopping areas.

If you get off at Repubblica, Via Nazionale is a great shopping street, and I've written all about it in my article on the best shopping streets in Rome. The other option, Cavour, is located in the Monti neighborhood, which is famous for its unique boutiques and vintage stores.

If you're interested, I've also written an article about my favorite vintage stores in Monti. So, if you want to combine your cultural visit to Palazzo Esposizioni with some shopping enrichment, I'd be more than happy to link you to those articles!

What to See at Palazzo Esposizioni

Palazzo Esposizioni Roma is the largest interdisciplinary exhibition space in the center of Rome, and as you can imagine, a title like that comes with an inspiring place. At Palazzo Esposizioni, there are usually one or more exhibitions taking place, and some are even free of charge. They organize other activities as well, such as dance classes in the exhibition halls and different workshops for children.

I recommend taking a look at their official website, which is also available in English, since they keep all the information about current exhibitions and activities updated there.

Besides the exhibition spaces, Palazzo Esposizioni also has a study room, bookstore, café, restaurant, and cinema. The cinema inside the palace is not quite like a regular one, as its program includes films and documentaries related to the exhibitions.

The exhibition I went to see was Richard Avedon: In the American West, 1979–1984, a photography exhibition. Besides photography, Palazzo Esposizioni explores many different disciplines. Last year, for example, there was a Dolce & Gabbana exhibition that I heard great things about.

Tickets and Opening Hours

Palazzo Esposizioni is open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM, except on Mondays, when it is closed. Last entry is allowed up to one hour before closing.

Ticket prices depend on the exhibitions currently on display and how many exhibitions are included in your visit. If there are two ongoing exhibitions, for example, the ticket may be more expensive than when there is only one. From October 9, 2026, to January 31, 2027, the Richard Avedon exhibition is on display, and a regular full-price ticket costs €12.

If you are under 26 or over 65, you can get a discounted ticket for just €10. There are also special family tickets, for example, for two adults and two children. Children under 7 can enter for free. I recommend checking the official website for up-to-date ticket prices, as these can change depending on the exhibitions.

Personally, I bought my ticket at the entrance, but you can also book one online in advance. If you're visiting on a weekend, especially when a new exhibition has just opened, it might be wise to book your ticket beforehand. Otherwise, I think it's fine to just show up and buy your ticket at the counter!

My Tips for Visiting Palazzo Esposizioni

A very specific tip for visiting Palazzo Esposizioni is to make sure you find the right entrance. I was already standing at the top of the impressive staircase, ready to rumble, when I noticed that the gates were, in fact, very much closed. Turns out, the entrance was all the way around the side, at the top of another huge staircase, which was much less impressive than the main entrance.

The entrance you need to use can depend on the exhibitions currently on display, so keep this in mind when visiting the museum and check the signs when you arrive!

Is Palazzo Esposizioni Worth Visiting?

Now, is Palazzo Esposizioni a museum worth visiting? Especially when there are so many museums in Rome? In my opinion, yes!

First of all, I think the location is perfect. Museums in the center of Rome can often feel overwhelming because they are so busy and crowded with tourists. Palazzo Esposizioni, while still very central, is much quieter. For me, it's therefore not a museum that leaves me feeling tired afterward, but one that gives me energy and inspiration.

Of course, this also depends on the current exhibitions and whether they are something you're interested in. If you want to read more about my personal thoughts on the exhibition I visited, I'd love to welcome you to my newsletter community! Every two weeks, I send a little love letter from Rome, filled with insider tips, stories, and my adventures in Rome.

Conclusion

I hope this article has given you some inspiration for a new museum to visit in Rome! I realize that with museums like this, it heavily depends on the current exhibition, but I also think it's nice to visit somewhere without knowing too much beforehand. Who knows, maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Since it's autumn in Rome and the weather can be rainy sometimes, Palazzo Esposizioni is also a great place to visit when the weather isn't that great.

If you have a favorite museum in Rome, please let me know in the comments. I'm always open to new inspiration!

With much love,

Juliette
